About Me

Welcome!

I’m Meredith, the gal behind Globe Trot Gal.

Who am I? I wish I could say that I quit my boring desk job at 22 to travel the world solo with a backpack and a dream but, in reality, it took me a lot longer in life to figure out what I really wanted to do.

I’m a 40-something lawyer with a serious travel habit who, in early 2023, walked away from a six-figure corporate law firm salary to pursue full-time blogging and travel. A drastic decision? Yes, probably. (Ok, definitely.) But nearly three years later, I can honestly say I have zero regrets.

I want to show you that exploring the world on your own isn’t just possible, it’s incredible.

I’m A Solo Travel Late Bloomer.

My first solo travel attempt was… not great. A solo trip from London to the Scottish Highlands when I was 21 was so discouraging that I was convinced I couldn’t travel alone. So, I spent the next 18 years waiting for the “right” person to travel and/or and the “right” time to travel – none of which ever materialized.

Fast forward to 2018, when an amazing trip to Switzerland with family sparked a wanderlust revelation: I really, really wanted to see so much more of the world, I wasn’t getting any younger, there was no guarantee the right travel partner would ever come along so… I’d just have to go do it on my own. Scary? Yes! Absolutely! But the alternative was potentially waiting for the “right” moment forever.

Now, every solo trip I take feels like one of the most empowering choices I’ve ever made.

And once I ripped the solo travel bandaid off, the freedom of solo travel quickly became addictive. Between 2018 and 2023, juggling travel and a full time BigLaw job, I took solo trips to Italy (twice), France (twice), Scotland, Sweden, Finland, Croatia, Montenegro, and Belgium.

By late 2022, the unrelenting grind of years of working at a very large corporate law firm was taking a toll. I’d stayed for the paycheck, but the burnout was real, and I’d finally reached a breaking point.

So, in early 2023, I made a bold (and honestly terrifying) choice to walk away. I turned in my notice and gave myself a “travel sabbatical” year to explore and reconnect with myself. That journey took me to four different continents and several months in it became clear I desperately did not want to go back to an office.

So, I decided to turn my one year “sabbatical” into a new way of life, and Globe Trot Gal was born—my way of sharing practical travel tips, really useful travel advice, and a lot of travel lessons learned along the way (e.g. don’t break your ankle in New Zealand when you’re 29 hours of travel away from home – 0/10 rating on that experience!).

Though, I haven’t gotten completely away from lawyering. In the past three years I also created BlogLawGuide.com and TheContractEdit.com, my legal education and contact template sites for online creators and online business owners.

An Ode to Solo Travel.

Through all my solo travel I’ve had a realization: I don’t necessarily need a travel partner to have a wonderful time. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy traveling with others too, but there is something empowering, almost addictive, about the freedom of going it alone. I can follow my own schedule, spend hours wandering a museum or people-watching at a café, and make last-minute decisions without needing to compromise. I’ve learned that I can be my own best travel companion, and the experiences I’ve had while traveling alone have been some of the most meaningful of my life. I want to encourage others to have that same experience.

This blog is meant for any solo traveler, but especially for those women who, like me, are over 40 and maybe found solo travel a bit later in life.
